After that one, any other production of Don Giovanni is going to look oh so plain to me I'm almost afraid of setting foot in a theatre ever again (well, not literally, but you know what I mean).
I must thank my dearest, lovely friend Erwin Schrott, bless him!, for talking me into going to Genova and see it (and not only because he was singing the title role. Well, yes, that fact and the other fact that I have an almost pathological soft spot for Mozart's Don Giovanni had some kind of major role in convincing me to go and see it, nevertheless I ended up literally adoring the whole production. Thank you, E.!).
I sometimes start thinking about that in the middle of the day, even if I'm doing things with no apparent connection to Mozart, or Don Giovanni, or opera, or theatre in general - say, for example, while I'm cooking lasagne - and I always end up saying "Franco Zeffirelli who?!?". Now, this must mean something, n'est pas?
That's why Davide Livermore simply *must* be canonised (yes, with just one "n".), even though he's still alive (detail of whatsoever no relevance, you must admit. Actually, we do really hope he stays alive and well and keeps on doing his own wonderful things for a long, looooong time - so that we can go and see them, tee-hee!).
